I worked in England for ten years and am now the English section coordinator in an international school in France. My resources cover all areas of the curriculum at varying levels as many of the children that I teach now do not have English as a first language.

I have done this dance with a class as part of our studies on Ancient Egypt. It is more choreographed than some of the other dances that I do, but fits perfectly with the music. The children always enjoy doing it, but you need to emphasise the 'no contact' rule during the dance.

This dance idea encourages children to work individually, building up to large group work. The music really evokes the movement of the sea and develops to a crescendo for the shipwreck. You will have to listen carefully to the 1st movement of Scherehazade to find the right length of music for your group.

This dance idea always goes down well with the whole class. You could use any sports theme music, but I have found that the theme from Chariots of Fire encourages children to expand their movements more.

This activity combines movement and music in a very creative way. Children always enjoy playing instruments and can be very imaginative in the way they interpret sounds in movement.

Once you have made the cards with words describing how, what and where, this dance idea can be different every time you do it. The children can add to the word bank. I have found that they really enjoy working with partners and in small groups.

This dance idea starts simply and builds up to produce a whole class performance. The length of the dance is dictated by the children and can be faded out whenever they are ready.
